Cleaning God's House

With the upcoming Special Meeting of the Namibia Synod and the Induction of their Pastor, the Kalkfeld church came out to clean the sanctuary.  It didn't SEEM like it was going to be that big a job but the sanctuary, built in the 1970's to hold a couple hundred people when there were that many coming to church, seemed to keep getting bigger as we got more tired.  But what a wonderful group we had!!

Auntie Sarah one of our Deacons, regular preacher and all around wonderful woman. Ouma (Grandma) to Sharifa, William and Cyrill.  She had a small stroke a week or so before and had just returned from a week resting and under Doctor's care in Otjiwarango.  There is nothing that will keep her from being in God's house and serving the church!!

Auntie Lokie, a giving and caring woman- she is always offering somebody food and a place to sleep.  She is Ouma to Chantel and she tackled ALL the windows, inside and out.

I love this picture.  I know she is looking for streaks, but it seems as though she is seeing and being bathed in the Spirit of God.

Our youngest worker, Jaydine with Auntie Lokie's praying feet in the background!

Jacqueline- Jaydine and Geraldo's mom

Geraldo a hard worker with MUCH energy

Cyril, Geraldo and Sharifa on duty

Chantel- from Beauty Queen to Cinderella scrubbing the church!

William, whistling while he works!

I love the altar and pulpit cloths- God is Love!!

Sharifa really "enjoying" this whole thing!

Lulu (Renthia is her real name but she isn't very fond of it!)

Nina and Sharifa working on raking up the weeds.  They and Geraldo were "discussing" who got to use the good rake.

Nina (Marshaline is her real name) is Lulu's friend and she volunteered to help us.  She usually goes to the Lutheran church with her Ouma Auntie Joey.  Nice of her to join us!!

  1. Dear Loletta,
I am loving all your posts! Thank you so much! It's clear you are among wonderful people, and I so appreciate the good closeups of them, esp. the kids' faces! and their lives. How wonderful it is that the UCC has you over there, even though we miss you over here, too.

Things are good at Univ. City -- Pastor Jane (Heckles) is really leading! Her preaching is excellent, and we're just really getting started on the Transition Team (I'm on it.) I am so happy at the strength of her UCC connections and our growing ones. We must seem
very far away to you, though -- I think of you over on the other side of the world, very literally. At the Association meeting last Sunday, by the way, Herb Chamberlin and Yoshi Kaneda were honored for 50 years of ministry. Curt Fuller seems very happily retired in Chicago, by the way.
I'll think of you especially tomorrow, Loletta, at worship and as I do coffee hour prep beforehand -- I hope all is going as you want it to -- God bless you for the wonderful ministry you are carrying out. Best wishes and blessings, ongoing! Sally Buffington
