On the Way to Windhoek I

It took a bit of persuading but Garrett agreed to drive me to Windhoek so I could meet up with the Namibia Synod and vanpool to the General Assembly of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa in Maheking. South Africa.  It is a 8 hour round trip, and Garrett drives a lot for work, so at first he was reluctant.  Then he decided to make it a family trip, and to deliver some parts while he was there, (always a smart businessman).
We left after lunch on Saturday September 14 so I could catch the van pool on Sunday.  (Later the departure time changed to Monday evening.)  Garrett knows all the routes and we took a different one this time and a dirt road most of the way, so I saw some scenery I had not seen before.  Here are some pictures of the land formations on the way- driving east from Kalkfeld to Okajandja.  Kalkfeld is so flat sometimes it is hard to remember there are hills and mountains in Namibia.

And there are lime/chalk/salt pan areas too.

Some people have already seen this scenery and they wanted to see elephants. It WAS also just after lunch when we left so a nap was in order.  This is Lulu and Emmanuel.

And this is Roche'/Poplap/OC.  They are all Garrett's grandchildren from three of his five children.

Oupa/ Om (Grandpa/Uncle) Garrett.

We are coming up on a river bed that regularly floods.  The cement barriers have been washed up on the right side and not yet replaced.

Like Southern California- the river beds are dry most of the year, but when they are filled they can be dangerous.
