Okay, so in addition to sports and beauty pageant photographer, scratch wildlife photographer off my list of skills too. But there were extenuating circumstances- long distance, lots of movement and crisis in the process.
Today the children and I heard the dogs barking in a very strange way. We went to investigate what they were chasing and barking at. It turned out to be a kudu on the other side of the fence from the church property. We went over to try to get the four dogs to leave the kudu alone. It was obviously hurt and was favoring one of its legs. On the run over there and while the kudu tried to buck threaten the dogs with its antlers, I tried to take a few pictures.
There is a kudu in the bush, honest.
Getting closer ...you can see one of the farm workers coming with his son. That worried me even more than the dogs chasing the poor kudu... but the man tried to chase the dogs away.I got so excited, here is a picture of the sky...
A better picture of the kudu's antlers threatening the barking dog.
A better picture of the four dogs and the poor kudu is tiring.
Or maybe not- this is supposed to be a picture of the kudu bucking and goring one of the dogs on her head- only a slight wound but it could have been much worse!
.
My last attempt- the dogs ran away and so did the kudu. No word on the kudu but the dogs are all okay.
