The kids of course! It is a 50 minute walk one way but it is worth it! I volunteer to read to them in English (we also sing and learn words). They receive their primary education in Otjiherero or Damara for the first few years and have a class in English. In later grades they switch to English as primary language and have a class in either Otjiherero or Damara and is K-8. The GK Wahl Combined School does the same only with Afrikaans and English and is K-10.
When we first started I was working with the first graders all together on one day and the second graders on another day. We quickly found that the numbers (71 first graders) and (45 second graders) were too large, the room was way too crowded and HOT and then went to one class at a time.
A second grade class.
A first grade class and teacher.
