A Walk to the Settlement Part 9

Now we are walking down the main street of the settlement.

There are only buildings on the left side of the road.  On the corner is the ruin of an old building used for refrigeration before there was electricity in Kalkfeld.

This is the old Standard Bank building that now houses the "Sewing Project" run by two women who make primarily women's clothing in both traditional Damara and Otjherero styles as well as contemporary dresses.

There is a  house next to the sewing project which i seem to have missed photographing.
But then the is a little side street and these three buildings.  The one in the front used to be part of bed and breakfast.  The one in the middle is a room sometimes used for meetings or receptions and the one at the back was some kind of shop.

Next to the old bed and breakfast is Auntie Joey's house- her family used to run the B & B.

Next to that is a shop Helga used to run but it is now closed- not enough business, too few people paid their accounts regularly and she was taking care of her mother.
The building on the right is Helga's father Garrett's house where Helga and her two children live with him.

This is a long view of their yard and house along the road.
