This photo is taken stading at the new construction and looking up the road toward Otjiwararo which is 70 kilometers away. (The other direction is Omaruru which is 68 kilometers away.)
There is the Roadhouse on the right side of the road. It is a convenience store and the only place electricity is sold in Kalkfeld. I also buy credit for the computer and cell phone there.
On the left side of the road across from the Roadhouse is a factory that closed many years ago.
Starting back on the walk you can see the signs advertising the local attractions- there is a dinosaur print place 50 kilometers away. I have not yet been there.
There is also the lodge where one of Auntie Joey's grandchildren lives and works. It is supposed to be very nice and the food very good- dining overlooking a waterhole so the animals are easy to see.
A little further on turning right heading for the center of the Settlement - the Roadhouse on the left, the road running along the railroad tracks and from the center of the Settlement to the "Location" part of the Settlement. You can see some of the new houses there - the pretty pastel buildings.
