Eager Anticipation of Advent

The children and I got all the decorations out for the Advent season early.  When I started asking what Christmas traditions the church had, they indicated oh, "just a Christmas Eve service and a New Year's Eve service" (Watch Night).

But the children were much more eager about it.  They said (actually shouted all at once, so I had to remind them I can only listen to one at a time!), "We want to do a play like last year but this time we want to talk."  (Last year they just acted out the narration of the Nativity story)  Since William, Cyrill and Sharifa were to leave to go to their other grandmother's in Rehoboath on December 13th, that meant we needed to do the play on December 8th!  Better get hopping!

The manger is in the middle of the table and the green and red pointy things are candle holders made from plastic bottles.

Ahhh budding thespians!  So we began going through all the props and costumes and decorations to see what had survived the packing and the heat of the storage room.  We found the crowns for the magi and the halos with stars for the angels.

And they tried to put together the sentences that were posted last year.  I confess, it was in Afrikaans so I could not help them!

We lost Cyrill along the way (he doesn't read) but Sharifa, Geraldo and William wanted to get started on play practice right away so they could learn the lines!
