Watch Night- New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve I remembered to take pictures of the congregation but of course took them a little to early.  Still some folks were there when we started and we ended up with about sixty with all people visiting family for the day. The left side eventually filled up to look like the right side, but I wish I could show you the people!

It was a wonderful, joy filled service from 11 pm to 12:30 am. At midnight the bell was rung for a long time and everyone sat in silence.  There had been firecrackers on Christmas Eve but it was very quiet after church on New Year's Eve- everyone was tired from their family gatherings and party before church and was ready for bed !

Most of the kids (Sunday School and visitors) sat up front on the right side as well as the church members (in their usual seats).  The visitors sat toward the back and only a couple of them (children and adults) fell asleep.  It was a nice service.  I preached in English, we sang in Afrikaans and English and several people spoke about the past year and the coming new year in Afrikaans.
