On Christmas Eve we held the traditional Christmas Eve service at 6 pm and there were about 60 people there because all the families had visitors for the night. It was a nice warm feeling of Christmas hymns, scripture and story.
On Christmas Day Helga invited me to come to dinner with the family.
There were some people whose names I didn't learn unfortunately. From left are Josey, Mani's companion and their sons Emmanuel and ?, then Bloma (Helga's niece), and in foreground Rowan (Helga's nephew).
I brought a vegetable stir fried rice dish. It was not needed. The feast was sumptuous and Helga did most of it with a little help from the rest of us plating things and grilling the meat. From left on the outside, meatloaf, deviled eggs, sausage rolls, snook (fish), meat balls (times two), and fried chicken. In the middle from front to back are an appetizer of hotdogs, pineapple, cheese, and pickle on toothpicks, sausage, and grilled meat.
Another view, under the plate in the plastic container is my favorite, rooster brood (grilled bread).
After the prayer, the Namibian custom is the guests, then elders and men get fed first, then women, then children last. From left are Wesley (nurse from clinic), Helga's niece Rovenda, Helga's sister Rowena, Helga's daughter Lulu, Helga and Garrett (Helga's father).
The kids enjoyed the food but not for long. They were more interested in the "swimming hole."
